A mix of contemporary and historic furnishing are carefully combined to reinforce the serenity of the space.
This house was built in 1852, a historic house in the Village of Sag Harbor, NY. Sitting on a full acre of lush English gardens, the house was built an astronomer and inventor, and it was designed in the Italianate style, featuring a tower (campanella) and has an irregular geometry.
The interiors are designed to evoke the history of the home in its original form, while providing contemporary inserts that act as a backdrop and enhance the atmosphere of the space.
We combined two smaller bathrooms on the second floor into a large, sun-filled master bath. We transformed the tower into a cozy library equipped with a wet bar, and re-purposed its second story into a quiet reading and meditation room. Central Air Conditioning was carefully installed with minimal disruption to the original walls. The kitchen was completely refurbished with top-of-the-line Gaggenau appliances and solid birch wood custom cabinetry designed by our studio. The countertops and kitchen island top are white Carrara marble with beveled edges which makes for a minimalist, floating look. We preserved and refurbished the original kitchen hearth and brick pantry. The rest of the house was harmonized through a light green-gray color palette developed in collaboration with Farrow & Ball and carefully restoring the original flooring pine plank flooring and existing woodwork.
